# Try Metabind in Claude or ChatGPT

> Add the public Metabind connector to Claude, ChatGPT, or your own agent, with no account, and see answers render as interactive UI

The Metabind connector is a public MCP server with the **Metabind Component Kit** built in: ready-made components for metrics, charts, tables, comparisons, lists, timelines, steps, and forms. Add it to Claude, ChatGPT, or your own agent, ask a question that has numbers or options in it, and the answer renders as interactive UI instead of a paragraph.

You don't need a Metabind account to try it.

## The connector URL

```
https://mcp.metabind.ai/ui
```

The connector is public, so it needs no sign-in and no API key. Anonymous traffic is [rate-limited](/guides/operations/rate-limiting).

## Add the connector

**Claude**

1. In [Claude](https://claude.ai) or the Claude desktop app, open **Customize → Connectors**.
2. Click **Add** and choose **Add custom connector**.
3. Enter **Metabind** as the **Name**, paste the URL into **MCP server URL**, and click **Continue**.
4. Under **Authentication**, Claude detects that the connector is public and selects **No sign-in**. Click **Add**.

Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization owner adds custom connectors for the team. See [Connect to Claude](/guides/connecting-to-mcp-hosts/claude-desktop) for the full flow.

**ChatGPT**

1. On [chatgpt.com](https://chatgpt.com), select **Plugins** in the sidebar.
2. Click **Add** and choose **Add custom MCP server**.
3. Enter **Metabind** as the **Name** and paste the URL into **Server URL**.
4. Under **Authentication**, choose **No authentication**.
5. Select **I understand and want to continue**, click **Create as a plugin**, then click **Connect**.

In Business, Enterprise, and Edu workspaces, an admin may need to allow custom MCP servers first. See [Connect to ChatGPT](/guides/connecting-to-mcp-hosts/chatgpt) for the full flow.

**Your own agent**

Add the URL to the list of MCP servers your agent already uses. No token is needed:

```ts theme={null}
import { Client } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/index.js";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp.js";
const client = new Client({ name: "my-agent", version: "1.0.0" });
await client.connect(
  new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(new URL("https://mcp.metabind.ai/ui"))
);
const { tools } = await client.listTools();
console.log(tools.map((tool) => tool.name)); // ["show_view"]
```

To draw the views, your client must be an MCP Apps host. A client that isn't one still gets the tool's input back as structured data. See [Custom MCP hosts](/guides/connecting-to-mcp-hosts/custom-hosts#rendering-interactive-tools).

## Ask something with structure

Start a new conversation and ask a question whose answer has structure a person would rather see than read. For example:

* *"Chart average monthly rainfall in Seattle over a year."*
* *"Compare a Roth IRA, a traditional IRA, and a 401(k) in a table."*
* *"Plan a three-day trip to Lisbon as a day-by-day timeline."*
* *"Give me a checklist for moving to a new apartment."*

When the answer has that kind of structure, the model calls the connector's `show_view` tool, picks components from the Component Kit, and fills in their fields. Metabind validates the response against each component's schema before it renders, and the view appears in the conversation, inside the host's sandboxed frame. The model fills in the components; it never writes HTML or code.

For short facts, opinions, or writing, the model answers in text as usual.

## Make it yours

The connector shows what interactive answers look like. To have your own agent answer with your own components, in your brand, build a Metabind project:

> **[Your first MCP App](/guides/getting-started/your-first-mcp-app)**
>
> Start from the Oak & Ivory retail sample and connect it to Claude in five minutes.

> **[Build an Interactive Tool](/guides/building/interactive-tools)**
>
> Turn one of your own components into a tool the agent can call.

> **[Run your agent in your app](/guides/getting-started/embed-an-assistant)**
>
> Render the same answers natively in your iOS, Android, or web app.
